Pleasure For Pain

Why do I put myself in this position,

That starts off with pleasure and ends in frustration?

It's just something I do now and then,

It's something I've known time and again.

If I knew what's good I'd stay away

'Cause all that's come will soon decay.

And even though it seems so right

All odds are against me in hindsight.

To realize and act heralds wisdom

But I'm just a hypocrite with rhyme and rhythm.

St. Patty Cakes

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone! But before we proceed, let us remember why we commemorate this day...

St Patrick is known as the patron saint of Ireland and has become an integral part of the Irish heritage, mostly through his service across Ireland of the 5th century.

Pat was born in Roman Britain in the 4th century (and we all thought he was full blown Irish?). At 16, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. When he returned, he joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.

Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people (very practical for visual learners such as myself). After 30 years of evangelism, he died on 17 March 461. Patrick endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity and is held in esteem in the Irish Church.

Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue (who would have known?). Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century and still hold to this day!

Two Decades and then a Week to soak it all in.

Had an amazing 20th birthday last weekend! Since my birthday is on Valentine's Day and most of my friends are not really acquainted with one another, it seemed fitting to have brought everyone together in one pub for a suh-weet Valentine mashup to celebrate the day!

However, the week (although it felt like an eternity) that would follow brought a dense amount of assignments, tests, and exams D: Now that that's over and done with, I'm taking advantage of this Reading Week to soak in all the good stuff, and to purge myself of all the stress from exams.

To those of you who still have exams post-Reading-Week, Godspeed! The worst is almost over.

Wish Upon a Snowflake

Snowflakes are twinkling like stars in the sky;

The wind whirls them around as it breathes out a sigh.

And as I gaze up, I am widely grinning,

'Cause it brings me back to the days of star spinning.

Though not a star in the sky's to be found,

I wish upon a snowflake as it floats to the ground.

What I truly wish for is renewal

of peace and love, not just petroleum fuel.

A snowflake is so humble and pure

I'd faithfully turn to it to find a cure.

'Cause humble and pure is what we should be

Just try it out, and you shall see.

And should it reach the ground below,

That snowflake was blessed just moments ago.

So even if there are no stars tonight

You can wish upon a snowflake's might.

Anyway, was just browsing IMDb and I must say, although I am not the biggest fan of Taylor Swift's music (nor her acting from what I've seen), that blondie is a sexy vixen rockin' the straight bangs. Wew! Hottiee. 

Eclipse

I just watched Eclipse for the first time.

Not really my cup of tea, if you ask me. But hey, I was in the mood for a comedy ;)

Year 2011

Happy New Year everybody! This year we celebrated the New Year first by snowboarding in the day and partying the night away at the Hilton Hotel / Casino Lac Leamy (complements of Albert Li).

My New Year's resolution: To not care so much about what others think. I think to do so makes life so much more limiting. Please share your resolutions in the comment box, I'd love to hear them:)

Remember that no matter what year, or what time of year it is, there's always room for improvement and goals. It's never too late to make amends and start anew.
