Just Useless.

Where did the day go?

So all I did this weekend was spend money shopping on 3 different occasions and watch a few movies at James', passed out, and had a useless day the next day (today). I did get to see Candice though as she came down to visit from Ottawa weeoo.

My horrible diet in the past 24 hours consisted of: beer, goldfish crackers, bacon, eggs and english muffins fried in bacon grease, and Nestea at James', then for lunch: poutine, coffee (18% cream [didn't even know they produced those] + 5 sugars), and a waffle immersed in jam with Candice, Jon and Merry. I need some fruits and vegetables in my life :P

Soon I shall end this headache and end this day with some glorious REM sleep to get ready to get through the next week.

Geese

All the leaves turn green in the summer

All the roses bloom in May

All the geese fly home for the winter

High above our earth now paved.
All the stars gleam for the night time

And the moon reflects its adjacent sun
Its so hard to find real answers

When no real side has won.

Prechorus:
Well the grass covers up my body

And the river taught me to hear

Well trees have served as my refuge

And the dark it taught me to fear

Chorus:
All the men that live to burn

All the arms that love to hurt

All the hearts that have turned their worst..

We’re so cold.

All the leaves soon loose their color

And the roses begin to fade

Crying loud I hear our mother

For just a few of those geese that were saved.

Prechorus:
Well the grass covers up my body

And the river taught me to hear

Well trees have served as my refuge

And the dark it taught me to fear

Chorus:
All the men that live to burn

All the arms that love to hurt

All the hearts that have turned their worst..

We’re so cold.

The World Spins Madly On

Slept for ten hours yesterday. Woke up an hour ago. Been having no appetite lately :( And it doesn't help that there is not a lot of food in the fridge hm.. Basically starving myself out right now, which isn't really what I need considering how underweight I am. Don't know why I have zero appetite, especially in the morning when I've just woken up. Perhaps I'm undergoing a lot of stress. Maybe if someone made me an exact replica of one of those amazzinnggg smoothies I had from La Mucca in México, I'd go for that.

Mmmm que bueno. $10 MEX ~ $1 CDN

Come on and Drive Me Wild

Matt Nathanson's "Still" from the album "Some Mad Hope" is amazingg. Really, this whole album just blows me away. You should take a listen. Anyway, I'd like to talk about "Still" just because these lyrics are uniquely so meaningful, sweet and passionate and really hot at the same time. In addition, the words and music just go together so well.

The music sets a perfect portrayal of passion but the words are hot and intimate. Thanks to my good friend Aaron for introducing to me this song!
(Song and lyrics below).

I remember hearts that beat yeah, yeah
I remember you and me,yeah, oh yeah
Tangled in hotel sheets
You wore me out
You wore me out

I remember honey lips and words so true
I remember nonstop earthquake dreams of you
You're coming on fast like good dreams do
All night long

Still can feel you kiss me love
Still can see your brown skin shine, shine
Still can feel you kiss me love
Come on and drive me wild (me wild)

And you move like water, yeah
And you broke like waves
I've never been deeper, so far gone
Your sister in the next room with the television on

Still can feel you kiss me love
Still can see your brown skin shine, shine
Still can feel you kiss me love
Come on and drive me wild
Come on and drive me wild
Come on and drive me wild

I remember hearts that beat,yeah
I remember you and me
Tangled in hotel sheets (for hours)

Still can feel you kiss me love
Still can see your brown skin shine, shine
Still can feel you kiss me love
Come on and drive me wild

Still can feel you kiss me love
Still can see your eyes like diamonds, diamonds
Memories are strong enough
To come on and drive me wild
Come on and drive me wild

I Can Procrastinate While Studying at the Same Time...

So lately, I've been really obsessed with posting blog entries, as you can see from my blog archive. The frequency of posts becomes highly saturated in the month of October. This is a bad thing, for now, because I have a fair number of midterm exams coming up.

However, I just found this passage of my Abnormal Psychology textbook so fascinating that I wanted to share it with you. I love learning about how such simple actions work, and learning how it only seems simple on the outside but is actually quite complex.

For example, what exactly goes on backstage, physiologically, when we react to danger and stress?

So a little backgrond: this is due to the responsibility of our peripheral nervous system, which coordinates with the brain stem to make sure that our bodies are working right. One of the two major components of the this nervous system is the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The primary function of the ANS is to regulate the cardiovascular system. The ANS is then further divvied up into the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS)

Ok let's get to the roles they play in our context.

The SNS is responsible for:
  • mobilizing the body in the face of danger/stress
    • by rapidly activating organs under its control
  • when SNS is on alert:
    • heart beats faster, increasing flow of blood to muscles
    • breathing increases, providing more oxygen to the blood and brain
    • adrenal glands are stimulated
These changes help mobilize us for action. If we're threatened by immediate danger, this system enables us to run faster or defend ourselves with greater strength. This is why most of you have probably read about people lifting cars and stuff. Or maybe you are more familiar with the Simpsons episode where little Maggie Simpson saves Homer from drowning.

SNS vs PNS
Lastly, but importantly, the parasympathetic nervous system kicks in when the SNS has had enough and balances the SNS. The PNS normalizes arousal and facilitates the storage of energy by helping the digestive process.  Basically, the function of the PNS is to stabilize us because we can't operate in a state of hyperarousal and preparedness forever.

So hopefully that post wasn't too boring haha. I need my dose of blogging... and studying! Good luck to all you who have exams coming up as well!

Just Won't Cut It For Me.

I don't know how I feel about these shoes...... OK I do know how I feel about them. I am in loove with Urban Outfitters. But there are a few things that I don't appreciate:
  • The ridiculous over-pricing
  • At times, the quality of products
  • That I get a vibe that they sometimes 'try too hard' to be soo artsy and indie and unconventional, which isn't always a bad thing, but is when it results in selling monstrosities like these:

The Jeffrey Campbell Cutout Wedge. What is that? No offence to those who do enjoy the cutout wedges, this is just my take on it.

Not only is it cut out in the wedge but also in the middle of the shoe itself so it exposes the side of your feet. Whyyy? I'm not a huge fan of wedges to begin with, but cutting part of the wedge out does not make it better. It's like when the fashion industry takes things to higher and stranger levels. Dresses made of lightbulbs for instance. It's just not practical in any way and does not look good. It's sometimes hard to criticize fashion because fashion is art. But this isn't the runway, people.

Your comments and thoughts on these Cutout Wedge boots?

Let's Take it Way Back

Vintage. Visiting ModCloth yet again. I am in love with vintage. The following were designed to look vintage, but it's even better when it's the real deal. Anyhow, hope you enjoy these.

My favourites would have to be any of the sequinned sweaters, the sailor purse, the teal purse, the green scarf, and the two tops :)
